This study aims to extract and explicate principles for making homework enjoyable, based on the foundations of hedonistic ethics, using an analytical and deductive approach. Homework, as a bridge between home and school, plays a crucial role in learning and knowledge consolidation; however, it is often perceived by students as tedious and unattractive. Hedonistic ethics, which regards pleasure as the primary goal of life, provides a framework for redesigning homework assignments. Accordingly, eight key components of hedonism were identified, and based on these components, eight educational principles were formulated, including the gamification of homework, the cultivation of higher pleasures, rationality in the selection of pleasures, awareness of the consequences of pleasure, sustainability in ethical pleasure-seeking, prioritizing enduring pleasure over fleeting pleasure, attention to the quality of pleasures, and a narrative-based approach. The findings indicate that these principles can transform homework from a routine and compulsory activity into an enjoyable and engaging experience. By emphasizing sensory experience, rationality, and sustainability, these principles enhance students’ motivation and participation and strengthen their positive attitudes toward schooling and homework completion. The study recommends that teachers and instructional designers apply these principles in the design of homework and classroom activities to turn learning into an enjoyable, self-directed, and creative experience.
